A Better Dog Home Dog Training has been providing in-home dog training in Phoenix, Arizona since 2003. We employ a very dog-friendly approach to training our dogs that is simple and logical.
We use leadership training and techniques to help our clients elevate themselves above their dogs. When you get good leadership with your dog and you have them looking to you for their cues on how to behave, everything comes easier, from correction, to recall, to response under distraction.
Our company has evolved over the years. We started many years ago as just a guy helping people with their dogs. You could have called us Steve’s Dog Training. We operated that way for about four years and then we formed Phoenix Valley Dog Training, llc in 2007 in Arizona.
In 2011, we formed A Better Dog, llc. At that time, we decided that we were going to put our program online and sell it as a stand-alone product. To do that, we needed a name that was less regional. We’ve now developed the program and we supply it free of charge to our home dog training clients. When we add videos, we’ll begin selling it on its own.
We’ve been branching out more on the internet recently and have developed a number of media and directory pages. We aren’t great with the social media thing yet, but we’re working on it.

A Note From Our Trainer, Steve ..
Thanks for reading and thank you for your interest in our company. I thought I should take a moment and tell you a little about me since I’m the trainer at A Better Dog.
I love my job. I enjoy working with the dogs and the people that I encounter every day.
I’m the owner and the only dog trainer at A Better Dog. If you work with us, we don’t juggle you around with multiple trainers. You’ll be working with the owner of the company throughout the entire program. I’m saying this because we’ve tried hiring additional trainers in the past and the bottom line is that nobody cares about the service or the results a company provides like the owner does.
My organizational affiliations and credentials include:
.. I’m a Professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals.
.. I’m a Full member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
.. I’m a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for the American Kennel Club.
.. I’m certified in Canine CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross.
.. I’m a member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.
.. I’m a member of the Association for Humane Dog Training.
.. A Better Dog has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
.. and I’m a Certified Dog Behavior Advisor through Canine Dimensions Dog Training.
Enough of that. So what does all of that mean? Really just that I’ve been doing this for a long time and I take it seriously. It’s my full time career – not a hobby or part time job.
I spent eleven years in the banking industry after college and then I owned a general store for seven years. I’ve now been training dogs for over ten years and it’s by far the most enjoyable thing I’ve done in my career.
I try to have fun while we’re going through the program and if we work together I’ll try to make it as enjoyable as I can for you and your dog.
